Write, Pose, Walk Like an Egyptian

Check out the new display on the first floor! Students from our upper grades have been studying ancient Egypt and learning about hieroglyphics, cartouches, and friezes. The students have created their own cartouches (name plates) to not only display their names, but have added many symbols used by the ancient scribes to tell about the pharaohs who were their leaders. Next, students created friezes like the ones found in the pyramids. Can you pose like an Egyptian? More to come – next the students look at who in modern times has been influenced by the art of the Ancient Egyptians – artists like Alberto Giacometti and Romero Britto. What does Egyptian art inspire you to create?

  1. I’ll tell you about our FREIZE FRAME,we used hierogyiphics and some cartouches. We also used the designs from the eygption pages from a reference book that shows Egyptian poses. The pictures we drew are also in the FRIEZE FRAME.But not just any picture we drew pictures of ourselves as Eygptians in that style. The body faces forward and the head, arms, hands, and feet face either one side or the other.

  2. I know about “FREIZE FRAME” it has hieroglyphics and figures of myself as an Egyptian and I had to draw a picture of what i would look like if i lived back then.

  3. I love the cartouches that we did. The cartouches were the best thing that I have done so far this year because I liked learning to write in hieroglyphics. I also made a pop art pyramid. I liked it alot because I got to choose the designs that I got to put on.

  4. The cartouche I made is good. These are the best things we did so far. The pyramid is beter and the very best so far.

  5. My pyramid has hieroglyphics, and designs. The designs are stripes, poco dots, stars at night, and hearts. The modern artist’s name who made a pyramid is Romero Britto.I’ve learned all about him and his one pop art pyramind.

  6. My egyptian drawing has hieroglyphics and a scarab crown. We did cartouches with our names. It really made me think that I was in Egyptian life.

  7. My drawing is a picture of King Tyler!! He ruled the whole nation and he planned an attack on Queen Isabella. He failed the attack. So he returned to his people and they gave him a drift (meaning they didnt talk to him). His son ordered his men to mummify him. His son became the new king! Now he ruled the nation. His royal name was Royal Power.

  8. Its just like Egyptians. They have stuff from a long time ago. And they live next to the Nile River. They had Kings and Queens. I liked doing this project and it was very fun.

  9. My drawing is about myself as a person that lived in Egypt. He was a person that worked for the king. He protects the king from people that try and hurt him. He is holding a whip. I felt very good about doing this project and learning stuff about the Egyptians.

  10. My drawing of myself as an Egyptian has long legs, long arms, and trapezoid hands. It had triangle feet. It felt good to know how to draw an Egyptian firgure because it is different.

  11. My drawing is from Egypt. It has a crown on it. It has blue and black pants. I felt good about this project because it has many things people can learn about.

  12. I liked making a cartouche with my name. I made a drawing of myself as an Egyptian. I used a lot of different colors. I like to use red, blue and orange. I made the person brown and I outlined everything in black and gray.

  13. I drew a picture of myself as an Egyptian person. My class made a frieze and we are all on it. It was not easy to do this because i didn’t know how to do it but now I do.

  14. My drawing is about myself as an Eygptian . I drew a pharaoh. I had to draw a scepter with the pharaoh to show his power over his kingdom.

  15. Hieroglyphics is an old writng style. There were over 700 symbols in hieroglyphics. The Egyptians built pyramids for their Pharoahs. I drew a picture of myself as a Pharoah and it is on our frieze. My picture has a skirt and a necklace on.

  16. In Egypt there are pyramids. The Ancient Egyptians dressed with gold necklaces and gold headdresses. I like the symbols and hieroglyphics they used in their art.

  17. Our frieze has nice drawings of us as people in Ancient Egypt. My figure drawing is of me as a regular guy at the pyramids. I like the neckpieces that the kings wore around their necks. Its bigger than the ones that people wear now and it has jewels in all kinds of shapes. King Tut’s has a boat shape and a big scarab beetle on it. I like how it closes. I wonder how they did it. I really like the jewels on the necklace.

  18. The Hieroglypics were Ancient writing that the people
used. They were not strange people. My pyramid has a lightning scarab beetle on it. My favortie hieroglyph is the Eye Of Horus. The Egyptians believed that it could see the future and the past.

  19. The frieze was colorful and very well designed. The people on the frieze had their heads facing either left or right, the same direction as their hands and legs. Males had small robes that looked like shorts to us. The females wore big, long robes . After the frieze I made a colorful pyramid. The artist that inspired us was Romero Britto. He is from Brazil. He made a huge pyramid in London with the help of 1500 children. I made my own mini version of a pop-art pyramid. I used a knot, an Eye of Horus, a Scarab, and other hieroglyphs.

  20. The pyramid that I made has characters on it and my own characters. I made my pyramid 3-D and it was cool. I cut it out and glued it onto heavy paper and then I cut it out again and I folded it and then I glued it shut. It became a square pyramid. I used bright colors to make it look bright and pop. It was inspired by Romero Britto. He is a great artist and he explores around the world and he makes art with kids.

  21. I made a pyramid. My pyramid has an ankh, a beetle, the lord of two lands, and I forgot the other symbol. The artist I learned about is Romero Britto. He made a pyramid with a Bastet Cat, an Ankh, a Scarab beetle, and an Eye of Horus. He put designs all around them in bright colors. As designs in the background he put hearts, stripes, polka dots and pieces of his signature.

  22. I put hieroglyphics on my pyramid . I made my pyramid out of paper. I added different colors onto each and every side, then we folded it up into a triangular prism with a square base. I got my inspiration from Romero Britto and then I thought that I could make art in his style. I’d like to go to a museum to see his other work and paintings.

  23. My pyramid has a design and lots of colors. I put shapes inside the designs. It was difficult for me because I couldn’t fold the corners and I needed some help. Next time I do this type of work I will add more designs.

  27. the way i built my pyramid was i had to color it in. the Egyptian house, snake, and bug were made by Egyptian people. They made it in stone. I really liked doing this project because it helped me learn about the Egyptian people.
