•April 29, 2009 • Leave a CommentYes, we felt the beat and it was great! On Wednesday, April 29th students from Ms. Cunningham, Ms. Madino, Ms. Panteli, Ms.Dogery and Ms. Vivaldi’s classes put on quite a show to the delight of students, staff and families. All were impressed with the talent of our children, who under the direction of Mr. John Bellia of Marquis Studios, put on two SRO (Standing-room-only) performances. Everyone did an amazing job, not only in the performing, but in the weeks leading up to the big day, creating beats, learning to work together as a group and developing their skills as musicians, as well as creating artwork and posters for the big day.. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that we were very proud of all our children!! BRAVO!

Bang the Drum – Percussion at the Main Site
•April 6, 2009 • 20 CommentsSeveral classes at the Main Site have been participating in a percussion program with Marquis Studios for the past several weeks. Students of Ms. Panteli, Ms. Dogery, Ms. Madino, Ms. Cunningham, and Ms. Vivaldi have been learning all about percussion and using found objects to make rhythms as performed in “Stomp”. Students have been preparing, learning counts, working collaboratively and taking direction from a conductor, Mr. John, in preparation for their performance on Wednesday, April 29. Be sure to take in one of the two performances that will take place that morning! More information and photos to follow.
What’s New Week of April 5, 2009
•April 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentThis week make sure to check out MOMA Monday nights, when the museum is open one Monday until 8:45 pm and admission is half price. Monday, April 6th, is the day. For more information visit enews@moma.org. Also check out familyprograms@moma.org for information on what is going on this month. I recommend the film screenings (Harold and the Purple Crayon will be screened) and Learning to Look, which is good for elementary aged children.
Immigrant Heritage Week will be celebrated later this month, April 17 – 23 with events throughout the city, many of which are free. Visit NYCkidsarts.org/collections/34/immigrant-heritage-week for a listing of things to see and do throughout the five boroughs.
Students Visit the Museum of Modern Art!
•April 3, 2009 • 13 CommentsOn Wednesday, April 1, 2009, Ms. Cunningham class and Ms. Roche’s class visited the Museum of Modern Art. The students focused on four paintings by artist who were influenced and inspired by music: Gino Severini, Pablo Picasso, Wasily Kandinsky and Jackson Pollack. After visiting the galleries and discussing the art with the museum educator, Ms. Cari, the students participated in a resist painting session, drawing upon their visit as inspiration. Students also recorded observations of the day in their sketchbooks. The students impressed Ms. Cari with their knowledge of the artists, techniques, and critical examinations of the works. P373R can be very proud of all the participants!
